The National Testing Agency has issued notification for UGC – NET December 2023 examination. Every year NTA conducts the exam two times a year to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for ‘Assistant Professor’ and ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ in Indian universities and colleges. UGC – NET December 2023 examination will be conducted in 83 subjects in Computer Based Test (CBT). NTA has issued a public notice on its official website regarding Schedule of UGC – NET December 2023 and Important Instructions.

Pattern Of Examination
- The examination will be conducted in two papers and on same day and there is No Break between papers.
- Each paper consists of objective type, multiple choice questions and we are required to select one answer among four options.
- Paper – I contains 50 questions, each question carries 2 marks, total of 100 marks.
- Paper – II contains 100 questions, each question carries 2 marks, total of 200 marks.
- Both papers together will be conducted for 300 marks.
- All 150 questions are compulsory. No choice will be provided.
- No negative marking for incorrect answers.
- Paper – 1 will assess the Teaching/research aptitude of the Candidate and also test reasoning ability, reading comprehension, thinking capabilities and general awareness of the candidate.
- Paper – II is based on the subject selected by candidate and assess the Domain knowledge of the candidate.
Marking Scheme
- If a question is found to be incorrect/ambiguous or has multiple correct answers, only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answers would be given the credit.
- If a question is found to be incorrect and the Question is dropped, then two marks (+2) will be awarded to only to those candidates who have attempted the question. The reason could be due to human error or technical error. Since, there is no negative marking, candidate needs to choose one most nearest option as correct answer.
Eligibility Criteria
General/Unreserved/General – EWS:
Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC
For OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender:
Candidates who have secured at least 50% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC
Age Limit and Relaxation
For JRF: Not more than 30 years as on 01/12/2023
Relaxation
1. OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender and women applicants – 5 Years
2. Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates with research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant / related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority
3. Three years relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates with L.L.M. degree
4. A relaxation of up to 5 years is provided to the candidates who have served in the armed forces subject to the length of service in the armed forces up to 01/12/2023
For Assistant Professor: No upper age limit
